Alcorn State University recently held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new student housing complex. Alcorn State University president Dr. Ross, administrators, students, faculty, staff and contractors attended the ceremony and had a chance to tour the mock room and glimpse the new era of student living. The General Contractor for the construction project is Munlake Contractors, Inc. along with Summit Brantley Building Innovations.

“This is a truly great day for Alcorn. We are embarking upon the construction of 1002 beds on this campus. There will be four residential units and one amenities building,” says University President, Dr. George E. Ross. “
Forty-seven million dollars - it is the largest construction
project, let alone housing project in the history of this university. It is not just about building rooms, it’s about building our capacity to grow at Alcorn. This is about giving students a living environment comparable to any student environment in America.    

The new student housing complex is being built by the Alcorn State University Educational Building Corporation and will include four (4) housing units plus an amenities building featuring a convenience store, fitness center, computer labs, and leasing offices.  The new complex scheduled to open in the fall of 2010, will replace 1002 beds, providing Alcorn students with comfort and convenience in a modern, secure living space.

Summit-Brantley Building Innovations LLC (SBBI) is a dynamic manufacturer of Building Systems. The company combines a building component manufacturer with a general contractor which gives the venture a unique perspective that enables us to better suit the needs of the construction industry in this new age. The 54,000 Square foot plant is located in Lexington, TN half way between Nashville and Memphis. Our location will allow us to cost effectively ship product to sites in a 500 mile radius of the plant including Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, and Alabama.

SBBI produces the standard building components such as wall panels, trusses, joists, and floor systems, but we differ from other panel companies. We are a one stop provider for our builder-customer so we deliver:

• Exterior panels with complete sheathing and building wrap as well as windows and doors. 

• Interior panels with paperless drywall on one side if the builder requires.

• Builder packs that includes siding, soffits, cabinets, doors, hardware, and trim packages.

• Both wood and metal.

Summit-Brantley Building Innovations, as the name implies, is an innovator. We will continually engage in R & D to discover new and unique ways to improve our product lines. We want to do as much in our plant as possible to allow our builder-customers to shave time off their construction schedules. Time saved in the field goes right to the builder’s bottom line.  Our goal is to allow our customers to reduce their construction schedule by up to 50% over traditional methods. We strive to get the building dried-in in as short of time as possible to speed up the remainder of the process.
